Memories on the bus

This morning, on my first bus, I was reminded of my grandma Anderson. I haven't thought about her in a long time. She was my dad's mom, she died in (I think) the early 90's. I feel terrible for not really knowing too much about her. Her name was Margaret Soper Anderson. She was the youngest of (I think) 3 children. She was called "Babe" until the day she died. I was reminded of her because this old lady on the bus said "Oh, for goodness sakes!" in a "smoked for too long" kind of voice to an old man who was wearing a watch on each wrist. The man was on his way to Wal-Mart to buy some shirts at 6 am! I could tell that the woman had spoken to the man before, but she felt the need to speak slowly and condescendingly, like speaking to a child.

Grandma Anderson used to say "Oh, for goodness sakes" whenever I would say anything to her. I was in contact with her between the ages of 3 and 7, and I guess that's just how she showed that she was kind of paying attention to what I was saying. I remember that she didn't know how to drive and that she drank a lot of Rainer Beer (we lived in Seattle during this time of my life) and had a big flabby neck. She also chain smoked Merit cigarettes. I remember that my mom used to get very frustrated with her, but I don't know why. My dad, the oldest of three boys, seemed to be the farthest removed from her. My dad's dad, Harry Anderson, died before I was born. He was a ship architect and was fairly well to do. Grandma Anderson always dressed nicely and prided herself on shopping at Nordstrom. My dad's family, going back, were pioneers in Seattle. I have heard these stories all my life, but I don't know anything about my grandma Anderson. Weird.

I ran outta time and awake again

Well, my next comic is only half way penciled. I wanted to get more done over the weekend, but that just didn't happen. I would happily give up drawing to spend some precious time with Phil, and that's exactly what I did. Sunday flew by with shopping (I finally got a new pair of Chucks) and laundry. Mondays are always busy at work and then tired at home. I MUST draw as soon as Spencer is in bed tomorrow night. I really want to get this next one done.

Well, I finally finished this. I've been working on coloring it for days. I don't know who will see it or who will care, but I'm glad I finished it.

I do plan on drawing more, so stay tuned who ever you are.
